Public Release 0.1625.1: New Villain Storyline Extension
Hello, everyone!
Over the past month I had a bit of a think about what to do for what would be the last public update of the year. I wanted to deviate a bit from my routine of writing alternate endings for stories that are mostly already written and try a thing folks weren't quite expecting, give you something more to look forward to heading into the new year. So I made the somewhat bold decision to explore a previously greyed-out choice that occurs near the beginning of our story, soon after Kyou uses the penlight on Nozomi while they're cleaning the classroom.
That first choice leads to most of Penlight's darker storylines, as Kyou leaves school the next day to get chased down by Hiroko and inadvertently discovers just how powerful his device really is. But what would happen if he's in less of a hurry to head home? What if he decides to stick around in the hopes of catching Nozomi without her friends to interfere? She'd have to hear him out, right?
All of that is to say I've written the script for the first two scenes of the Villain storyline's "stick around" route and added a new CG to go with it. There's a lot more to come from this, but I think we're off to a decent start ^^
In other news, the big CG from last month, on Hiroko's Gullible story path, has now been updated with finished art so if you were holding off on reading it before, now's the time!
I'll naturally be exploring the possibilities this new route opens up in the new year, so have a good holiday season and I'll see you then :)

I like the new route but the scene sounds a bit forced. Kyou hypnotizes her so casually? He's not repeating what happened with Nozomi. Doesn't he notice anything strange? And on top of that, he thinks that Akiko is attracted to him. I understand that Kyou is confused by his anger and that he feels cornered. But the scene doesn't flow to me. I would revise it. Maybe lengthen it so that what happens makes more sense.
Don't get me wrong. I'd love to see more of Akiko being hypnotized and where this could lead. But the beginning of this route doesn't seem as logical as the others.
Something I have been wondering for a while now, does the exposure to the light also affect kyou even though the beam isn't directed at him? Does he inadvertently manipulate his own perception of reality when he hypnotize others? I mean, even if it isn't used on him the patterns are still in the light, and we saw that they were strong enough to put someone in a trance despite being many buildings away. It would also explain why Kyou seems to actually believe that, in the robot ending, Nozomi and her friends are actually robot despite being fully aware at first that it is all a ruse.
By the way, I love the way you write this story. It is obvious that you actually interested yourself on the subject of hypnosis. It feels so refreshing to have a media which doesn't shows hypnosis as a all powerful tool made for evil purposes (even though it is what ends up happening). I wish there were more content like yours.
I think Kyou has always been kinda delusional. the whole fact he never got the hint like Hiroko says even before the light was created proves it sadly.
Maybe, but he is still rational. I mean, never once he doubts about the ground set rules of hypnosis, it is only a way for him to hopefully get closer to Nozomi. He is logical and the fact that he is really into technology makes him more critical on what can or can't be achieved with it. That's why it doesn't make sense for him to believe that the girls are robot. He believes himself to be normal all the time, how would it be normal to have "found" fembots? Which all happened to be those people he looked up to? Loneliness can make you a lot of things, but I don't think he is lonely enough to get crazy.
I've played the new script and I must admit, I'm surprised it's Akiko's rout instead of Sayori's. Well, it's my personnal opinion since Sayori is my favourite character but it feels even more like she's put aside compared to Hiroko.
Now I think I understand your choice too, maybe each character's screentime is not about some game ballance but about Kyou's personnal affinity with the characters.
Nozomi n°1, Hiroko n°2, Sayori n°3, Akiko n°4, Risa n°5
That's a little sad Sayori may not have her Evil rout to be honnest, but it's your story in the end, so your choice. Also Akiko is cool too, I'll stay tuned for the following of the story :)
